2023 Annual Report

We humbly and proudly steward Okihi, a 14-acre riverfront property, with the mission to inspire, enrich and educate with biologically diverse green spaces and mindful outdoor recreation. This mission wouldn’t be possible without the support and hands-on help from people like you - our community.

Here's what we accomplished together:

$56,416

in donations were raised

Donations are a vital part of what keeps Okihi running and thriving. Your contributions and investments make the vision possible.

$50,000

in grants received

Receiving grants and partnering with state and national initiatives is what allows us to provide outdoor educational programs that benefit our community.

450+ volunteers

came out to help

A big part of our mission is to not only restore and improve this riverfront property but to also build, empower and foster a community that takes ownership of these natural spaces. Thank you to all of you who continue to show up, get your hands dirty and transform our community for the better.

44 community events

were hosted to connect with the magic of Okihi

We work every day to create opportunities that will inspire and enrich the community through biologically diverse spaces and mindful outdoor recreation.

4 CSUB fellows

joined us through the California Corps program

Students are paid by CA Corps for their time working at Okihi. Students get to choose where they work so we get to foster exploring their chosen interests.

30 native species

replanted with the help of the local Girl Scout troop

Girls Scouts raised $300 to purchase over 30 different types of plants and trees. With their help, we taught them how to replant for a higher chance of success.

24 lbs of seeds

for wildflowers and trees were planted

There is always an educational component to these events, so people have the opportunity to learn about why planting native plants is so important to the local ecosystem.

1,000+ ft

of dripline installed

Driplines provide efficient and targeted irrigation directly to the root zones of plants, minimizing water wastage. This localized watering promotes healthier plant growth, improves nutrient absorption and conserves water resources.

1 plant nursery

built to produce plants for land restoration and food stability

These plants will be grown in an enclosed environment for a high chance of success when planted in other areas. Increasing native plants locally combats adverse climate effects and creates homes and food for animals.

1 walking labyrinth

serving as a mindfulness space

The rhythmic movement and focused attention required during the labyrinth walk can facilitate stress reduction, increase self-awareness and provide a sense of calm.

2 outdoor education programs launched

that will serve as a mindfulness space
